Heather Cassils explores gender and performance using her body. I first experienced Tiresias, where Heather uses her body to melt a block of ice carved like a solid muscular male chest, her female form emerging through as it melts. The trauma her body experiences with the ice is evident, and carries over into her other work; both Cuts: A Traditional Sculpture and Inextinguishable Fire are worth mentioning.
